C&D Skilled Robotics, Inc. is now selling is own line of laser-guided vehicles and automated truck-loading vehicles in the U.S. The laser-guided units have been offered by C&D's parent company, Euroimpianti SpA, since 1998. The change allows C&D to act as a single source of technology for all end-of-line automation applications, the company said. The Skilled 800 LGV unit handles transportation of products and pallets from multiple production lines, to and from storage as well as truck-loading areas. The feature eliminates the need for conveyors. The system uses laser positioning, similar to an electronic eye, which relies on reflectors positioned on surrounding walls to determine a vehicle's precise position by triangulation. The laser-positioning system requires no prep work to the customer's floor, such as magnetic or colored tape, and is easily expandable to accommodate growth, the company said.
