Aras has embedded advanced search capabilities into the Aras Innovator suite of applications for product lifecycle management (PLM). The new functionality provides additional options, at times when queries that are submitted in the vendor's on-premise software access cloud-based search services in Microsoft Live Search and GlobalSpec. (The latter is a database on the Web for engineering parts and products.) The latest version allows for parametric searching on GlobalSpec PartFinder and SpecSearch, which access a library of more than 24,000 product catalogs from original equipment manufacturers and distributors. The lists cover more than 180 million parts in 2.3 million product families. Full-text searching on GlobalSpec's Engineering Web vertical search engine index covers hundreds of millions of pages of product development content, the vendor said. Web searching is provided by Microsoft's Windows Live Search. Innovator also includes wider search capabilities using Windows Search 4.0, with support for a wide variety of languages. Search capabilities include the ability to save frequently used searches to My Saved Searches for additional convenience and instant reference.
