Motorola, Inc. has devised two new products to help companies maintain and manage their wireless local area network (LAN) systems. Offered under the name SMART RF (for Self-Monitoring at Run Time Radio Frequency), the tool allows I.T. managers to remotely analyze and perform network testing from a central location. They can also take advantage of new "self-healing" features for easier network management and improved wireless LAN performance. Motorola's AirDefense Advanced Troubleshooting system identifies wireless LAN configuration issues that impact on business applications. It helps users to reduce or eliminate bottlenecks and minimize downtime across the network, the company said. New features include an Access Point Connectivity Testing Module, which proactively identifies connectivity problems with periodic end-to-end wireless network testing, initiated over the air by a wireless sensor emulating a client. In addition, a Connectivity Troubleshooting Tool allows help-desk staff to analyze and resolve wireless client-connectivity issues, or escalate trouble tickets without the need for extensive wireless expertise.
