SBS Worldwide is now operating a consolidation service for containerized ocean freight through the Port of Los Angeles, for customers based in Northern England. The move represents the first in a series of planned service enhancements for this year. The new offering is being operated through SBS's office in Manchester. In January, the company introduced a consolidation service from Los Angeles to Liverpool, with a 17-day depot-to-depot transit time. Its Chicago-to-Liverpool service already offers a 14-day transit. The new services will reduce transit times on key routes in and out of Northern England, according to SBS chairman Steve Walker. The introduction of new vessels from the Far East has made possible a 17-day port-to-port transit time from Southern China, he said. The company maintains U.S. hubs in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.
