Con-way Inc. has developed a new consolidation and distribution service for shippers and consignees. The offering draws on the resources and expertise of three of the company's operating units: Con-way Truckload, Con-way Freight and Con-way Multimodal. In the process, the carrier said, customers can benefit from both asset- and non-asset-based operations, which can be tailored and integrated in any combination. With one call, they can gain access to transportation management, full truckload and less-than-truckload, and such value-added services as light assembly, kitting and labeling. The result, claimed Con-way, is lower transportation costs, improved profitability, reduced pressure on existing distribution centers, reduced warehousing time and the flexibility to handle surges in demand without compromising supply-cycle reliability.
