Psion Teklogix, Inc., a vendor of mobile computing technology, has integrated the A528, a Gen 2 UHF radio frequency identification (RFID) compact reader from Caen RFID, into its handheld unit known as Workabout Pro. According to Psion Teklogix, the combination of Workabout Pro's rugged handheld computing capability with the A528's ability to operate in the U.S., European and Canadian regulatory environments creates the first multi-regional ruggedized mobile device available to the North American market. Through Workabout Pro, the companies are integrating the A528 reader with the Impinj Indy R1000 reader chip, creating the capability for high-density RFID tag reading. The move opens the door to new applications for RFID in industries such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, asset management, finance and aviation, the companies said. Caen RFID is an Italian designer and maker of RFID UHF readers and tags. Impinj is a developer of UHF Gen 2 RFID systems for item level and supply-chain tagging.
