DHL Express has opened two new gateways in Taiwan and South Korea. The Taipei Gateway at Taiwan's Taoyuan International Airport, and the Incheon Gateway at South Korea's Incheon International Airport, are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, DHL said. The Taipei facility covers 13,500 square meters, four times larger than the previous site, and will triple shipment-handling capacity. Drop-off and cut-off times will be extended by up to two hours. The Incheon Gateway occupies 20,000 square meters and includes a fully automated sorting system for parcels, making possible a fivefold increase in distribution volume over the previous facility. Incheon will serve as a consolidation and distribution center from South Korea to markets such as Mongolia, northern China and the Russian Far East. It will also serve as the intercontinental link to the U.S. and Europe. At the same time, DHL has added a Boeing 747-400F aircraft to service its route between Singapore and Hong Kong through Air Hong Kong, a joint venture with Cathay Pacific. The freighter will operate between the two cities six days a week, more than doubling capacity on the route.
