TNT Express has officially opened a new hub facility and branch office in Milan, Italy. The integrated logistics operation guarantees daily distribution to Milan and its hinterland, Como and Varese, while simultaneously acting as a sorting center for international goods. Covering 40,000 square meters, including 23,000 square meters of indoor space, the "Milano Mega" facility is located beside the runway of the Milano Linate city airport. For TNT, it represents an investment of some $16.4m. A TNT Airbus A300 takes off from the airport each night, bound for the company's world air hub in Liege, Belgium. Milano Mega has daily handling capacity of 45,000 items and a year average of 5 million items. It features a conveyor belt system for parcel handling that uses software exclusively developed for TNT, with a speed of 3,600 items per hour. The center also includes three Pallet Masters, equipment that can photograph and measure the weight/volume of items in a certified manner.
