The BNSF Railway Co. has designed a pair of free tools, which allow shippers and carriers to compare the cost and transit times of intermodal and highway services. The railroad's Intermodal Transit Adviser provides comparative information on routes, cutoff and availability times, transit time and miles between origin and destination. Users can see exactly how their product will move through the intermodal supply chain, BNSF said. The railroad has also designed a Savings Estimator, which analyzes route information and provides a custom report showing the cost savings of intermodal over highway shipping.
