Timestrip Plc, a developer of smart packaging devices, has created Timestrip Plus, an indicator which shows the amount of time that a product has spent above its threshold temperature. The device is designed to monitor temperature-sensitive products in the pharmaceutical, healthcare and food sectors. It does not require special conditioning before activation, and is easy to interpret, according to the vendor. A viewing window shows that the indicator is active by changing color from white to blue. As long as the product is held at or under its safe temperature, the color remains the same. Once the temperature threshold has been breached, the color moves across a scale, showing how long it has been above that temperature, so that the user can take appropriate action. When the product returns to safe temperature levels, the color stops progressing. In the process, Timestrip Plus can record multiple excursions above a safe temperature, the company said. Moreover, it registers the cumulative time over which a temperature breach has occurred, so that the user can see instantly whether a project is past the point where it can be safety used. Timestrip Plus is designed to work under a variety of conditions, including ambient, refrigerated and frozen, as well as under extremely high temperatures.
