Despite the difficult economic environment, the market for 3-D laser scanning hardware, software, and services market contains exceptional growth opportunities, according to a new report from ARC Advisory Group.
Based on macro-economic assumptions consistent with forecasts by the International Monetary Fund, ARC predicts the 3-D laser scanning market will begin showing improvement in 2010 with full recovery in 2011. For the forecast period, ARC expects a compound annual growth rate of 7.4 percent, with some segments achieving growth rates of more than 11 percent.
3-D laser scanning equipment senses the shape of an object and collects data for the location of the object's outer surface. This distinct technology has found applications in many industries including discrete and process manufacturing, utilities, construction, archaeology, law enforcement, government, and entertainment.
Technology advances in the areas of data quality, software processing, and ease-of-use are rapidly expanding the applications for 3-D laser scanning, according to research director Ralph Rio, principal author of ARC's "3D Laser Scanning Worldwide Outlook."
