APL has announced upgrades to its twice-weekly ocean container service between Miami and Central America. The carrier has added a port call at Santo Tomas in Guatemala to its CAX (Central America Express) service. At the same time, it has moved the cutoff time at the Port of Miami to Friday for one of the two weekly sailings. The change gives shippers an end-of-week cutoff in addition to the traditional Wednesday departure. APL said the changes will provide shippers with a more reliable service, while meeting customer demand for improved access to the Central America market. The CAX service connects to vessels on APL's trans-Pacific and trans-Atlantic trade routes. The mid-week sailing rotation is Miami; Puerto Cortes, Honduras; Santo Tomas, Guatemala; and Miami. The week-end sailing rotation is Miami; Puerto Cortes; Puerto Barrios, Guatemala; and Miami.
