DHL Express has added a Boeing 767 freighter to its fleet, in service between Europe and the U.S. The Extended Range Freighter recently made its first commercial flight, departing Leipzig, Germany, for New York's John F. Kennedy International. Operated by DHL Air, a total of six Boeing 767ERFs will be deployed in the carrier's trans-Atlantic service. They will replace the MD-11F aircraft that DHL is currently sharing with Lufthansa Cargo. The 767ERF offers payload capacity of 59 tons and has a maximum range of 3,700 miles. It will make daily direct flights between the U.S. and Europe, including connections between the DHL European hub in Leipzig and JFK. Another daily flight links DHL Express's Americas regional hub in Cincinnati and JFK gateway with East Midlands in the United Kingdom. DHL said it is the first company to register the 767ERF in Europe, following certification through the European Aviation Safety Agency. The new aircraft will result in a 53-percent reduction in fuel per trip and CO2 emissions, the company said.
