Buyers at ADT Security Services, who source finished equipment from a wide range of suppliers for the home and business security systems that it sells and installs, rely on supplier scorecards.
They purchase hundreds of millions of security products per year, including burglar alarms, access control panels, card readers, keypads, fire detection products such as smoke detectors and video equipment, including cameras and digital video recorders.
In that effort, ADT places the vast amount of its spend with a few select key strategic suppliers. "We build strategic relationships with these suppliers, who can help us deliver a greater value proposition to our customers," says Ramon Genemaras, ADT's vice president of operational excellence. Genemaras oversees all company procurement.
According to Charlie Edwards, director of strategic sourcing and part of Genemaras' group, the sourcing team rates strategic suppliers quarterly on such criteria as quality, delivery and cost, among other criteria. ADT uses a 100-point scoring system.
