Logistics Management Solutions, a non-asset-based third-party logistics provider, has been selected to provide transportation management technology and services to Belgium-based Vesuvius, a $1.5bn manufacturer of high performance specialty ceramics, refractory products and control systems.
LMS will manage Vesuvius's truckload, intermodal and less-than-truckload freight operations, which include 30 manufacturing, warehouse and cross-dock sites throughout North America. LMS will perform carrier management services and use its Web-native transportation management system, TOTAL, to direct the entire shipping process. Additionally, authorized Vesuvius personnel will have internet access to vital shipping data, including delivery statuses and performance reports.
"We also felt [LMS] technology and process would allow us to gain visibility along our domestic supply chain while lowering costs," says Scott Lesko, Vesuvius's logistics manager for NAFTA. "We feel this new relationship will be mutually beneficial."
LMS transportation planners will work at the manufacturer's North American service center in Champaign, Ill. The planners will collaborate with the company's sales group, which performs customer service functions and enters product orders into Vesuvius' enterprise resource planning system.
