Damco, a logistics provider owned by Denmark's A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, has created a less-than-containerload (LCL) network from its hub in Miami, Fla. to 33 Latin American destinations. The Americas Bridge service will consolidate LCL shipments from various U.S. points for full-container shipping to Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Chile. The service can also ship LCL directly from Miami, with weekly options. The end-to-end offering encompasses inland and ocean transportation, warehousing, customs clearance and shipment visibility. In another company announcement, Damco has opened an office in Maputo, Mozambique, to boost its service in South East Africa. Damco has been operating in Mozambique for the past year and a half from an office in Beira, supporting the land-locked countries of Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The company can now offer service in the Maputo corridor, serving parts of South Africa such as Mpumalanga, Gauteng (Johannesburg) and Limpopo Province, and providing direct access to the most highly industrialized regions of Sub-Saharan Africa. Maputo is also a cost-effective alternative to Durban and Beira for parts of Zimbabwe, Zambia and Swaziland, Damco said.
