APC by Schneider Electric, a developer of power and cooling systems, has created two new series of APC Smart-UPS models for use in server rooms and network closets. The uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) systems include an LCD interface with diagnostic capabilities and advanced energy-management, delivering energy-consumption metrics. The systems' "green mode," which automatically bypasses unused components, can lead to efficiencies of better than 97 percent, the vendor claimed. The intuitive, customizable LCD interface provides local and remote configuration capabilities, accurate power-status information, diagnostics, tests and activity logs. The system displays a variety of information, from product serial number to APC support information, in a multitude of languages. The technology adjusts a battery's lifetime based on environmental conditions. The 750-1500VA models are currently available in North America. The 230V models will be available in Europe, Australia and New Zealand in the first quarter of 2010.
