UPS has added a range of services to its UPS Developer Kit, formerly known as UPS OnLine Tools. The offering now includes less-than-truckload (LTL) services, package drop-off locator capabilities and street-level address validation. The UPS Developer Kit is a suite of application programming interfaces (APIs) which allow customers to integrate UPS technology directly into their business systems, including customer-facing websites. UPS began offering APIs in 2001. The new services provide users with a wide range of capabilities, according to Jordan Colletta, vice president of customer technology marketing at UPS. In addition, the company has created the UPS Developer Resource Center, to help developers locate desired applications. The new APIs enable LTL rating, LTL shipping, LTL and package pick-up scheduling, street-level address validation and the UPS Locator, which allows customers to find the nearest UPS drop-off location. The APIs are especially well-suited for customers with XML and Web services technical skills, UPS said.
