Brownline Inc., which operates a 55-unit refrigerated tractor-trailer fleet transporting seafood from the U.S. Pacific Northwest and British Columbia to markets in the Midwestern and Southwestern United States, has gone live with a 13-user Freight Logix transportation management solution from Headwater Technology Solutions Inc.
The purchase was triggered by the need to comply with the new Automated Customs Environment (ACE) initiative of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP), says John Hilde, Brownline vice president. ACE rules make it mandatory for highway carriers to submit shipment information electronically to CBP prior to their arrival at the border.
Headwater says Freight Logix was one of the first TMS solutions to offer full compliance with CBP manifest initiatives, says Mel Mills, Headwater vice president. Electronic manifests can be prepared from Freight Logix load data with a mouse-click, with no further input required from the dispatcher, Mills says.
"Besides providing expedited ACE compliance, Freight Logix also provides us with excellent integration of data for both inbound and outbound shipments," Hilde says. "Along with superior dispatch capabilities, it also provides automation efficiencies throughout the entire transportation process, integrating products for GPS and driver communication, document imaging, mileage engines and more." Headwater says Freight Logix integrates all activities associated with transportation and freight management, from order entry through dispatch, rating to invoicing, driver and carrier settlement, and finance. It combines less-than-truckload, truckload, pickup & delivery, and cartage functionality for asset, non-asset and logistics operations in a single solution. The system operates in the Microsoft Windows environment with an SQL database.
Headwater Technology Solutions corporate headquarters are in Markham, Ont.
