GAC Solutions has joined with the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) to offer a training program for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other tanker markets, as well as other commodity and maritime sectors. GAC is a global provider of shipping, logistics and marine services. The new joint venture creates a portfolio of training courses for seafarers as well as shored-based shipping personnel. The courses will be available at NMCI's $100m training facility in Cork, Ireland, the client's location, or through electronic learning capabilities. The content was developed and will be delivered by numerous experts in maritime training, including Howard Candelet, former vice president of British Gas LNG Services, and Nick de Spon, a former master mariner with more than 40 years' experience in the oil and gas sectors. Employees will receive training on safe and secure terminal and jetty operations, along with the fundamentals of laytime and demurrage. Other course modules cover Incoterms, bills of lading, charter party and contract demurrage. The lessons provide hands-on training to ship owners, operators, managers, brokers and charterers; trading companies; oil, gas and chemical companies; terminal owners and operators; industry bodies; trade finance banks; insurance companies and P&I Clubs, and cargo-inspection companies. NMCI is run jointly by the Cork Institute of Technology and Irish Naval Service.
