Container volumes at West Coast ports followed an upward trend in April, with most of the ports reporting increases in imports and exports. Seattle led the way in April with a 70percent increase in containerized imports and 55.6-percent increase in exports compared to April 2009. The port's total volume increased 63.8 percent, which also led the coast.
Tacoma, which lost two services this past year, is still in the negative, with containerized imports in April down 13 percent, exports down 38 percent and total volume down 26 percent. With two services starting up this year, Tacoma's numbers should improve in the months ahead.
Containerized imports increased in Portland, Oakland, Los Angeles and Long Beach.
