Averitt Express and its associates recently participated in efforts to provide relief to flood- and tornado-devastated areas of the Southeast. Among other things, Averitt associates made a $50,000 donation to the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund. The Red Cross is providing food and shelter to residents of Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee who were forced to flee their homes due to the weather-related disasters.
Averitt officials say the donation was made from funds collected through the company's associate-giving organization, known as "Averitt Cares for Kids." The charity is totally funded by voluntary contributions from the company's associates.
"In the aftermath of the devastation, we were overwhelmed with questions from our associates about how they could help with the disaster relief effort," said Elise Leeson, spokesperson for Averitt Cares for Kids. "Our associates are humbled to be able to help provide aid to those who have been affected by this very unfortunate situation."
