CAPS Research has updated its highly regarded Cross-Industry Metric Report of Standard Benchmarks. This report includes key performance indicators for different industry sectors, including purchasing operating expense, training spend, diversity spend, total spend as a percent of revenue, supply management organization operating costs, purchase order cycle times, and employee retention.
The cross-industry report, published twice-yearly by CAPS Research, contains data on 20 commonly referenced benchmarks. The May 2010 report includes data provided by more than 200 different companies representing 14 different industry sectors.
A key metric measured year over year is operating expense per supply management employee. The 2010 benchmarking report shows the average operating expense is $122,890 per year. This is the sixth year that an increase in operating expense was reported. The report shows that supply management operating expenses are highest in the Petroleum sector, which average $148,455. At the opposite end of the spectrum is Metals and Mining which averages $87,828 per supply management employee.
