Spot market load availability increased by 10 percent and equipment postings declined by 4.3 percent in the week ending July 3. This contradicted the trend for the month of June, when load postings declined by 8 percent, compared to May. Despite that atypical month-over-month decline, the second quarter saw a 62 percent increase in load postings compared to Q1.
Capacity still appears to be constrained in the market as a whole. Flatbed capacity continues to ease, and spot market rates for flatbeds leveled off in June. Reefers are still constrained and reefer rates continue their upward trend. Spot market rates are on track to exceed contract rates in the refrigerated segment in June. Dry van rates are also trending upwards on the spot market and for contract freight.
