Qualcomm Inc. has joined with StarTrak Systems, LLC to offer the latter's ReeferTrak system for refrigerated transport to Qualcomm customers. StarTrak, a subsidiary of Alanco Technologies Inc., is a specialist in wireless monitoring and data-management services for the refrigerated transportation industry. Carriers will be able to remotely control and proactively manage their reefer assets. ReeferTrak offers two-way logistical, monitoring and control capabilities, providing customers with the ability to monitor reefer locations and control critical conditions within trailers throughout the shipping process. Fleet managers can track and locate reefer assets, monitor and control fuel consumption, and remotely control operations with capabilities such as start and stop, change set point and initiate defrost. In another company announcement, Qualcomm has created Trailer Tracks 210 (TT210), a system for accessing information about the load status and location of trailers. Due for commercial availability in the first quarter of 2011, the technology is the successor to Qualcomm's Trailer Tracks 200 (TT200) untethered trailer-management system. Additional features include an embedded solar panel and antenna, improved memory and processing power, coverage in Mexico, a more compact design and Bluetooth capability.
