Panasonic Solutions Co. has a added a model to its line of Toughbook U1 mobile personal computers. The Toughbook U1 Ultra offers 2 gigabytes of memory, viewability in sunlight, the Windows 7 operating system and faster performance by way of a 1.6Ghz Intel Atom Processor. According to Panasonic, the device is well-suited for highly mobile jobs such as direct store delivery, eCitation and vegetation management in markets such as supply-chain management, public safety and utilities. The Toughbook U1 family of handheld replacement computers has undergone a number of enhancements, including enlarged screen icons, a programmable right-click onscreen button, a larger soft keyboard, a zoom-and-pan mode, and a soft Ctrl-Alt-Del button for log-on access. An optional two-megapixel camera features updated software for faster auto-focus and improved white balancing. The optional barcode reader has been equipped with new software which allows for onboard, data and symbology configuration. The U1 Ultra can run a number of legacy mobile device applications, including Windows Mobile and Windows CE software, in the Windows 7 environment.
