Railinc, a provider of information-technology systems for freight railroads, has equipped its RailSight CLM (Car Location Message) engine with on-demand tracing capability through its Web-based tool, RailSight Online. The new integration options give rail-equipment owners, shippers, third-party logistics (3PL) providers and transportation-management system (TMS) software vendors enhanced ability to manage critical rail equipment and shipment data. Using the secure, on-demand tracing feature, customers can request the latest movement event data for up to 25 railcars per trace. Security features included with the upgrade ensure that only those individuals specified on the bill of lading can request and receive location data. In addition, RailSight customers can manage their fleets by equipment mark in the Railinc Umler system; Umler fleet changes will flow automatically into the RailSight system and update the location data feed. Users can append custom reference information to equipment in their fleets for seamless integration with in-house data, according to the vendor. The RailSight CLM track and trace engine delivers more than 7.5 million rail events each day from more than 530 Class I, II and III railroads and shops across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
