McAllen, Tex.-based USA Logistics Carriers, which specializes in serving the maquila industry, has adopted tracking technology from Sky-Bitz for more than 1,500 trailers in the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
USA Logistics Carriers chose SkyBitz to replace an existing trailer tracking platform that required the units to be installed inside the trailers. It says that process increased downtime and operational inefficiencies. The SkyBitz GLS 200 units are installed on the outside of each trailer-alleviating the need to unload the trailer or unlock the door.
"The technology has already enabled our company to reduce average trailer idle time to under two days by greatly enhancing the visibility we have to all of our trailers," says company vice president Sergio Lagos.
SkyBitz, Sterling, Va., says more than 315 fleets use its global locating system in tracking more than 115,000 trailers.
