Social networking sites have recently got a lot of unwanted publicity as the source of phishing threats. But they are still very much the source of the minority of these threats, with old fashioned spam being the main source of infection.
That's the verdict from spam and web filtering vendor SpamTitan Technologies, in the findings of its latest survey of SMBs on the continued danger of phishing attacks. The research shows that despite media reports about the rise in phishing on social networking sites, its' perceived threat to businesses is marginal in comparison with traditional spam techniques.
