ALAN is the brainchild of Katrina. Executives of logistics services providers, such as Saddle Creek, enrolled professional and trade organizations to help form a web portal. Through it, member companies would have complete visibility to relief needs that had been identified by such volunteer groups as the Salvation Army, the Red Cross and Feeding America.
"The portal was ready by the time that Hurricane Gustav came along," Otto says.
Saddle Creek has stepped up its own involvement. Recently it decided to second one of its employees to ALAN on a full-time basis.
Otto says there is quite a bit that companies with logistics expertise can do to support the organization's efforts, from donations to more active engagement. Simply visit www.ALANaid.org.
"There's lots of opportunity for folks to get involved."
