Exel is operating a 120,000-square-foot spare parts distribution center in Romeoville, Ill., for Sandvik Mining and Construction, one of the world's leading suppliers of drilling, excavation, crushing and screening machinery and equipment for the mining and construction industries.
The facility streamlines Sandvik's distribution network and serves customers via single, consolidated shipments. Exel and Sandvik collaborated on a transportation network study to identify the best strategic location for Sandvik's North American distribution center, and also completed facility design and item slotting studies.
"We're looking to assume greater control and operational consistency across our supply chain," says Anders Olsson, Sandvik's global vice president, supply chain. "The new facility enhances our ability to support growth across the Americas and into Canada, effectively supporting surges caused by heavy seasonality, and in turn improve efficiencies and increase productivity into realized net cost reductions."
Exel's Chemical and Industrial sector provides inbound and outbound handling, storage and forwarding execution services at the distribution center. Operational success will be measured through key metrics including safety performance, on-time receiving and shipping, inventory and shipping accuracy, and productivity.
