Acsis Inc., a supplier of software for supply-chain visibility and traceability to manufacturers and distributors, has become a founding member of 4 Serialization, a partnership designed to help pharmaceutical and bio-technology companies comply with new regulations on electronic pedigrees and product serialization. Other members of the collaborative effort include Cognex Corp., the developer of machine vision sensors and systems; Nosco, a producer of pharmaceutical printed packaging, and Omega Design, a provider of machinery and package systems. The effort is intended to help manufacturers, wholesale distributors and contract producers implement product serialization and visibility throughout their supply chains, to ensure patient safety and prevent counterfeiting. According to the partners, 4 Serialization will ease the burden of complying with the new ePedigree mandates of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Customers working with the 4 Serialization team can get a better sense of industry requirements, build systems that meet individual needs, and learn from industry leaders who can help them to meet serialization requirements while collecting the data necessary to building and benchmarking returns on investment. In addition, they can engineer packaging with pre-serialized 2D and radio frequency identification (RFID) standards, and launch structured pilot programs and production scale-ups.
