ALK Technologies has released its CoPilot Live Truck software for the iPhone. According to the vendor, the new tool is the first voice-guided global positioning system (GPS) navigation application designed specifically for professional truck drivers. CoPilot Live Truck provides information on safe and reliable routes on truck-legal roads throughout North America. Based on driver and vehicle profiles, it automatically calculates a route, taking into account vehicle size, weight, width and load type. The program avoids low bridge clearances and roads with restrictions on vehicle weight, height and width, as well as hazardous or flammable materials. Commercial truck routing options include Practical, Shortest, 53'/102" Trailer or Twins, National Network and Toll Avoidance. The software can also create custom trip, vehicle and driver profiles; display points of interest such as weigh stations, truck stops and rest areas; and generate state mileage logs for accurate records in support of billing and tax calculation.
