APL Logistics has introduced a containerized cross-border trucking service between Cambodia and Vietnam. The service, from Phnom Penh, Cambodia to the port of Cai Mep in Vietnam, offers shippers a later cutoff time at APL Logistics' container freight station in Phnom Penh. The Cross-Border Trucking service was designed as a "service recovery solution" for when production runs unexpectedly late, said Glenn Kong, managing director for APL Logistics in Cambodia. Trucking from Phnom Penh to Cai Mep can reduce transit times by up to four days compared with feeder services from Sihanoukville port, or barge services from the Phnom Penh river port, he claimed. The service is targeting shippers that are increasingly sourcing manufactured goods in Cambodia, especially in the retail, garments and fast-moving consumer goods sectors.
