Aras, a vendor of open-source product lifecycle management (PLM) software, has announced a 3D geometric search connector for the Aras Innovator PLM suite. The tool was developed by ShapeSpace, creator of geometric shape search technology for computer-assisted design (CAD) and PLM, and AESSiS, a provider of PLM services for complex engineering processes. Designers, engineers and others in the product-design workforce can identify parts and components based on shape, size or other attributes. According to Aras, 3D geometric search improves part reuse, reduces part number counts and optimizes external part purchasing and inventories. The connector combines ShapeSource's adaptive browser, geometric indexing and retrieval algorithms with AESSiS's expertise in the Aras PLM suite. In a related announcement, Aras has entered into a development partnership with Trubiquity, a provider of global managed file transfer (MFT) and business process integration products. The partners will provide a series of applications that connect the Aras Innovator PLM suite with Trubiquity's "cloud"-based services for secure collaboration and MFT in the PLM workflow.
