A new brand of business process management (BPM) is gaining traction in the workplace, and will challenge traditional perceptions about what BPM should encompass, a new analyst report asserts.
The nascent field has been branded "decision management" by researchers at IDC, whose report, Worldwide Decision Management Software 2010-2014 Forecast, posits that this new discipline and the technology that enables it will gain stature as business leaders recognize the importance of shifting from an artful approach to decision-making to a more scientific one. IDC expects this realization to help supercharge demand for this new brand of business process management tools. IDC forecasts that this will vault the decision-management software market, which encompasses platforms, applications, and component technology, to $10.8bn by 2014, a 15.8-percent annual growth pace.
