In 2001, a leading confectionery company sent out a Request for Proposal (RFP) trying to find a local provider of secondary packaging services in Atlanta, GA. Until that time, the company was performing primary and secondary packaging inside of its plant. Jacobson answered the RFP quoting on all secondary packaging displays they had in the market. Jacobson is now this company's national supplier of secondary packaging.
Jacobson worked with several of the confectionery company's DC's and plants, as well as the secondary packaging management team at the corporate office, to assist in all supply chain initiatives. Jacobson staffs and manages two one-shift, five-day operations with capabilities to move to multi-shift operations in both locations.
In our Forest Park facility, Jacobson helped the company through many special projects while maintaining normal production volumes, including several temporary multi-shift operations. Due to Jacobson's perseverance, the company has never had to cut an order due to unfilled production orders. In addition, Jacobson has provided many cost savings programs. One of which involved bypassing several unnecessary shuttle runs from Jacobson's plant in Forest Park to the confectionery company's local DC by shipping displays directly to other DC's across the country in full truckloads. Another program reduced the length of inbound unload times by as much as 25 percent. Jacobson provided data suggesting the company should not ship mixed lot codes of product on one pallet as it dramatically slowed truck unload times.
Due to this leading confectionery company and Jacobson's partnership, the company looked to Jacobson when searching for one national supplier to provide a turn-key solution for all of its secondary packaging needs, including display design and production, material procurement, assembly and warehousing. Jacobson allocated resources to open a turn-key packaging location in Illinois, just 20 miles from the confectionery company's plant and 0.5 miles from their Midwest DC while continuing to provide the same services in Atlanta, GA. The turn-key solution included the acquisition of a stand-alone facility and any necessary equipment needed for production, facility staffing and a partnership with a display design company also equipped to produce corrugate for all of the company's needs.
Jacobson provides daily custom reporting regarding daily production and activity for each location and has access to this company's SAP system further integrating both companies' supply chains.
