With a new year comes a renewed focus on inventory and how to manage it. All systems and aspects of the supply chain must match up with customer demands in the ever-present and evolving omnichannel environment. After all, customers can order goods from anywhere on any smart device, and their expectations are that they will pick up their goods, or have their merchandise delivered to any place – on their terms. People want quick results – or else they will find another outlet from which to shop.
While most manufacturers and retailers realize there is a large gap between where they are today and where they need to be to meet customers' expectations, many fail to use advanced technologies and best practices, according to a JDA survey of 255 executives across 17 countries, representing a wide range of retailers and manufacturers.

SCI Logistics, a Canadian-based third-party logistics provider, has expanded its coast-to-coast network with the opening of a specialized transportation center in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
XPO Logistics Inc., a freight brokerage and transportation services provider, has acquired UX Specialized Logistics, a North American provider of last-mile logistics services for retail chains and e-commerce companies.
Analyst Insight: Though logistics in China has historically been resistant to change, improvements in express delivery will have a noticeable impact in 2015 due to the rapid growth of e-commerce, food safety concerns, and government measures. The limited supply of land for logistics purposes will affect warehousing costs, and the extra cost will drive the need for storage efficiency.
