A groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction for one of Switzerland's most advanced logistics centres, built by Schenker Schweiz AG. The new logistics hub will include office buildings, on a 38,500 square-meter property in Pfungen, Canton Zurich.

DHL Supply Chain is investing $11.3m in a new end-of-route shared user hub at Heathrow. Scheduled to open in early 2014, the facility will offer airlines a turnkey solution for end-of-route return catering requirements on long haul flights.

The success of online retailers has been linked to the demise of many high street shops in the UK, most recently HMV and Jessops. The remaining retailers have clear strategies which incorporate on-line shopping with home delivery and are often further supported by other initiatives, such as click and collect, where goods are ordered online but delivered to a third-party address, such as a local garage or convenience store, to avoid the disappointment of missed home deliveries.

The logistics services provider Logwin has doubled its storage capacity near Barcelona, with a new warehouse that opened at the end of February.
