Although commercial vehicle orders slipped month over month in June, there was still good news to be had. Class 8 net orders fell below 20,000 units for the first time since last September at 18,830 units.
Spot market freight volumes reported by the DAT North American Freight Index rose 2.2 percent in June, compared to May. The month-over-month increase fell slightly short of seasonal norms; while freight volume increased from May to June in eight of the past ten years, the average increase was 10 percent.
Class 8 orders remained above 20,000 units for a seventh consecutive month in April, rising to their second-highest volume in sixteen months. April Class 8 net orders totaled just over 23,200 units.
