Qualcomm Inc. is making available to its customers global positioning system (GPS) technology from ALK Technologies. ALK's CoPilot Truck product for onboard, truck-specific navigation will be the standard navigation application on Qualcomm's new Mobile Computing Platform 50. It will also be one of the navigation options available to fleets with the Mobile Computing Platforms 110 and 200. Co-Pilot Truck uses street-level ALK digital maps of the U.S. and Canada, enhanced with PC-MILER truck-specific attributes, to help fleets reduce fuel expense and out-of-route mileage. In another company announcement, Qualcomm has released the Mobile Computing Platform 50, which helps fleets to monitor and manage compliance while reducing the cost of safety and operations. Features of the new technology include hours of service, CSA safety performance service, critical event reporting, on-board navigation and an analytics manager, which provides data on operational performance in the form of dashboards, graphs and tables.
