Tego Inc., a vendor of high-memory radio frequency identification (RFID) tagging technology, has created the Tego Radion tag. According to the company, the device is the first Gen 2 UHF tag capable of surviving repeated gamma sterilization and other types of intense radiation exposure. The tag is designed to enable RFID applications in medical, life science and food industries, where gamma sterilization is common. It can also be applied in the nuclear energy industry, for tracking radioactive materials or assets exposed to radiation. Tego's Radion tag offers 1.5 kilobits of EPC and other user memory for extended functionality in supply-chain, asset-management and logistics applications. Uses can read and write tag data on the spot, without relying on back-end data systems. Benefits include the ability to view maintenance logs, configurations and other historical data at the point of read. The product is available as an inlay, label or industrial tag.
