RedPrairie Corp. has certified the new LXE Thor vehicle-mounted computer from EMS Technologies, Inc. for a variety of supply-chain applications. The unit is the latest vehicle-mount computer to use the full-screen, full keypad form factor developed by LXE, of which RedPrairie has been a partner since 1987. RedPrairie has endorsed the Thor for use with its Warehouse Management System (WMS), Yard Management System (YMS) and Transportation Management System (TMS). The unit houses an Atom processor running a dual operating system of either Windows Embedded Standard or Windows Compact Embedded. The computer incorporates two patent-pending features, a field-replacement front panel and quick-mount smart dock. The front panel, which can be changed within minutes with a screwdriver, maintains the unit's IP 66 protection against water and dust. In addition, the device automatically recognizes any change to keyboard configuration. The Thor can be easily detached from its vehicle mount and can stay powered for up to 30 minutes via battery backup. It can be transferred from one forklift to another as maintenance of equipment is required.
