Hi Tech Solutions (HTS), a provider of optical character recognition (OCR) and computer vision technology, has developed third-generation (3G) technology within its port automation and security offerings. The new releases include systems for automating container and vehicle data capture at terminal gates, on cranes and at rail facilities. HTS 3G systems feature high-resolution, mega-pixel industrial cameras and LED illumination units running on a Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) network with upgraded software. GigE is the latest generation of Ethernet, with data-communication rates of up to 1000 Mbps, or one gigabit per second. The technology provides high-speed transmission of video images and related control data from computer vision systems. The new camera and LED units result in the capture of high-quality images in a wider range of climatic and environmental conditions, the vendor said. Port and terminal operators with fibre infrastructure already installed incur no additional cost for the placement of gate lane PCs in an onsite server area.
