Meritor Inc. a supplier of drivetrain, mobility, braking and aftermarket products for the commercial vehicle and industrial markets, has created a third-party logistics unit called Meritor Aftermarket Services. Initially to be launched in North America, the operation has plans to expand globally over the next several years. Aspects of the new program include distribution operations driven by lean processes, demand-forecasting and safety-stock techniques, assembly of complex kits and deployment of automated packaging equipment, techniques such as high-velocity picking zones for improving inventory turnover, a remanufacturing capability with portfolio of commercial vehicle components and industrial products, and streamlined access to customers and suppliers with distribution centers around the world. Based in Troy, Mich., Meritor serves commercial truck, trailer, off-highway, defense, specialty and aftermarket customers in more than 70 countries.
