Sato Worldwide, a vendor of automatic identification and data-collection systems based on barcode and radio frequency identification technologies, has acquired Argox Information Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of barcode printers, scanners and portable terminals. Founded in 1996, Argox specializes in the design and manufacture of low-cost and entry-level thermal printers. Among its target markets have been China, Brazil and Turkey; more recently it has aimed to provide auto-ID systems in such countries as India, Russia and South Africa. Under the transaction, Argox becomes part of Sato Holding Corp., which was formed in October of 2011. Argox will continue to operate as an independent entity, reporting to the holding company, although the two entities will cooperate in future product development and cost-reduction strategies. Its current management will remain in place, Sato said.
