DB Schenker Logistics has opened a new branch office in Hohhot, capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous region of China. The location represents the first branch to be opened in the Inner Mongolia province by Schenker China Ltd. Hohhot is the commercial, political, cultural and economic center of the province, according to the company. Local products and industries include food, medicine, wind power, coal, machine tools and fiber-optic cable. DB Schenker said it was the first international freight forwarder to enter mainland China in the late 1970s, opening its first representative office in Beijing in 1982. Today, the company has offices and facilities in 57 cities throughout China. In another company announcement, DB Schenker has acquired the assets of Suomen Kiitoautot Oy, a provider of land transport services based in Finland. In the medium term, Suomen Kiitoautot Oy will continue to operate as an independent affiliate alongside Schenker Cargo Oy, Schenker's Finnish subsidiary.
