PeopleNet has entered into a development partnership with Magtec Products, Inc. The deal makes the products of the two companies compatible and inter-operable. PeopleNet is a provider of intelligent onboard systems and mobile communications for truckers. Magtec is a manufacturer and distributor of truck and equipment security systems. The two companies will work to integrate Magtec's M5K system with PeopleNet's g3 onboard computing and mobile communications system. The integration will allow PeopleNet customers to reach Magtec M5K functions through the same Web page interface they use to access PeopleNet's various location, business and vehicle-monitoring capabilities. Magtec authentication helps to prevent truck theft, even when the driver leaves a vehicle running. M5K requires drivers to enter a personal authentication code on a numerical keypad prior to moving the vehicle. In addition, fleet managers can set idling time limits, which are increasingly being mandated by local and regional governments. The system can be disabled for set periods of time, in order to accommodate vehicle maintenance and repairs.
