Mikoh Corp. has expanded its Smart&Secure software suite to permit the detection of tampering with radio frequency identification (RFID) tags used in electronic vehicle registration (EVR) applications. EVR replaces paper-based forms as a means of enforcing vehicle registration. The tags are monitored as vehicles pass under readers at normal driving speeds. Readers can be placed at tollgates, underpasses and other locations to aid in the enforcement of registration compliance. In addition, law-enforcement personnel can be equipped with handheld readers to interrogate tags while documenting traffic violations and other traffic-stop encounters. Mikoh's Smart&Secure technology disables an EVR RFID tag if tampering occurs, while alerting RFID readers to the incident. The product prevents tags from being stolen, removed and reapplied to vehicles not matching the original registration information.
