The aim, said Dell, is to reduce the cost of retaining big data through data reduction, simplified data management and scalability. Users can access data by standard SQL business intelligence and analytics tools. Also included are Dell professional services, to help customers enhance their current big data environment or create new ones that can scale to company demands and data growth. According to Dell, the Big Data retention tool can provide an average data-compression ratio of 40:1, freeing up disk space by approximately 97 percent. The reduced footprint can speed up query access for analytics, the company said. The service draws on the capabilities of the Dell Fluid Data architecture, which enables extreme data volumes to be efficiently accessed and moved.
